At Vinyl Reserve, we strictly adhere to the Goldmine Standard (the standard used by Discogs) to evaluate the condition of our items. We understand that a record's condition is just as important as the music it holds.

Every item undergoes a visual inspection under bright light. In cases of doubt, we perform an audio test to ensure the accuracy of the description.

Mint (M) – Absolutely Perfect

Ideally, this is a perfect record. It is absolutely perfect in every way, has never been played, and in most cases, is still factory sealed.

At Vinyl Reserve: We only use this grade for brand new items sourced directly from distributors.

Near Mint (NM) – Nearly Perfect

A record that is close to perfection. It is very likely unplayed, or if played, handled with extreme care. The vinyl shows no obvious signs of wear, and playback is flawless with no surface noise.

  • Vinyl: Shiny and glossy, with no visible marks.
  • Sleeve: No creases, seam splits, or ring wear. It looks like it was just bought.

Very Good Plus (VG+) – Very Good (+)

The most common condition for well-cared-for pre-owned records. The record shows signs of use, but it is evident that the previous owner treated it with respect.

  • Vinyl: May show slight scuffs or very fine scratches that do not affect the listening experience. There may be slight background noise, barely noticeable in quiet passages or at the start of a side, but never overpowering the music.
  • Sleeve: May show slight wear on corners or edges, or faint ring wear, but is structurally intact and looks good.

Very Good (VG) – Very Good

A record that has been enjoyed many times. Defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced here.

  • Vinyl: Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages, intros, and fade-outs, but will not overpower the music. Occasional soft clicks may be present, but no skips.
  • Sleeve: May have writing, stickers (or residue), and more noticeable wear on edges and corners. However, it remains a fully enjoyable copy.

Good Plus (G+) – Good (+)

The record plays through without skipping, but will have significant surface noise, clicks, and visible groove wear.

Vinyl Reserve Policy: This condition is very rare in our main catalog. We generally do not list items in this condition unless they are extremely rare or historically significant pieces.
